About This Tool:
DAPSA (Disease Activity in PSoriatic Arthritis) Score

This web tool was developed by Dr. Ahmed Omar for RheumGuide.ca (Ver 1 – Feb 2025). We welcome your feedback to help optimize its functionality—please use our contact form to share your suggestions and feedback.

This application is designed to facilitate efficient and accurate documentation of joint count examinations and the calculation of disease activity scores (DAPSA and cDAPSA) for patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). By integrating an interactive joint diagram with automated scoring, it streamlines the assessment process—allowing clinicians to focus on patient care while ensuring precise documentation for both clinical use and research purposes.
Note: DAPSA incorporates a CRP value while cDAPSA excludes it. To account for this, the thresholds for low and moderate disease activity differ slightly between the two scores.

How to Use This Joint Count Tool
  1. Select the Mode:
At the top of the tool, choose between DAPSA (which includes CRP) and cDAPSA (which does not use CRP).
    • DAPSA Mode: Enter a CRP value (mg/dL) along with your other inputs.
    • cDAPSA Mode: CRP is omitted from the calculation.
  2. Interact with the Joint Diagram:
Click on the joints within the interactive diagram to classify their status:
    • 1 Click: Tender (displayed in grey)
    • 2 Clicks: Swollen (displayed in black)
    • 3 Clicks: Both Tender & Swollen (displayed in red)
    • 4 Clicks: Thickened (displayed in sky blue with dashed border)
    • 5 Clicks: Both Tender and Thickened (displayed in dark blue with dashed border)
    • 6 Clicks: Clears the joint selection
Your selections will update automatically in the results section below.
  3. Enter Patient Information:
Fill in the Date of Visit, Patient Name, Date of Birth (DOB), and other relevant details. Use the “Anonymize” checkbox if you wish to hide personal data.
  4. Set Global Assessments:
    Use the sliders to enter:
    • Patient Global Assessment (0–10). This is assessed by this question to the patient: How active was your rheumatic disease on average during the last week?
    • Patient Pain Assessment (0–10). This is assessed by this question to the patient: How would you describe the overall level of joint pain during the last week?

These scores, along with the joint counts (and CRP value in DAPSA mode), contribute to the final disease activity calculation.
  5. Disease Activity Calculations:
The tool calculates a composite score:
    • For DAPSA: The sum of tender joint count, swollen joint count, Patient Global, Patient Pain, and CRP
    • For cDAPSA: The sum of tender joint count, swollen joint count, Patient Global, and Patient Pain
    Interpretation of Scores:
    • DAPSA:
      • Remission: ≤ 4
      • Low Disease Activity: > 4 to ≤ 14
      • Moderate Disease Activity: > 14 to ≤ 28
      • High Disease Activity: > 28
    • cDAPSA:
      • Remission: ≤ 4
      • Low Disease Activity: > 4 to ≤ 13
      • Moderate Disease Activity: > 13 to ≤ 27
      • High Disease Activity: > 27
  6. Export Your Results:
    • Copy Results: Use the provided button to copy all joint counts and calculated scores to your clipboard.
    • Download Excel: Export your data as an Excel file.
    • Copy Image: Copy the annotated joint diagram (with the legend and summary counts) to your clipboard.
    • Download Image: Save the joint diagram as a PNG file.
    • Download PDF/Word: Export a report containing the joint counts, scores, and diagram.
  7. Reset the Tool:
Click the Reset button to clear all inputs and selections, allowing you to start fresh.

Tips
  • Ensure that the CRP value (for DAPSA) and both global assessments are completed to generate accurate scores.
  • Verify your joint selections before exporting the results.
  • Save your work by downloading or copying your data before resetting the tool.
